What is “Mexican pewter”?

By definition, “Mexican Pewter” is not pewter at all, as it contains no tin and is typically reprocessed scrap aluminum (mostly cans).

By ASTM definition, an alloy must contain at least 90% tin to be legally referred to as pewter. The legal costs to prevent the importation and labeling of this “imposter metal” have posed an obstacle to date.
